Cycling tourism is one of the biggest growth sectors in tourism, as shown by several studies that have been published recently, and presented in our blog.
Recently there have been new studies on this growing phenomenon. One of these studies is promoted by the European Parliament, indicating that this activity generates 44 billion euros per year across Europe.
Another interesting study on this phenomenon is the “Cyclist trails and greenways in France and abroad: methodology and success factors”, launched by the Department of Ciclables Regions of France and published in October 2012.
The analysis done through surveys concentrated on 11 tracks, analyzing 6 major aspects of each of the tracks and making a summary of their strengths and weaknesses.
•Organization and management
•Infrastructure and signaling
•Marketing and communication
We believe that the recommendations presented in this study are of great interest not only for initiatives linked to cycling but for any public-private cooperation project between regions linked to leisure and outdoor activities.
