The island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, will host the “Festival de Senderismo y Montaña La Palma 2009”, within the context of the 40th ERA Conference. The congress will be organized by the European Ramblers Association (ERA), an organization which comprises more than 50 associations, of which 8 are from the Spanish state. The rest of the associations come from 25 other European states, Israel and Morocco, adding up to a total of five million individual members. Some of these organizations have more than 50 years of history promoting routes on foot behind their backs and some others are already centennial.
Conferences dedicated to the handicapped
This year’s seminars will mainly concentrate on the adaptation of routes for disabled people. ERA’s main goal is to work so that those who organize and think up excursions always take into account those who can find themselves with difficulties or handicapped.
In addition, several activities and itineraries will be carried out for the more specialized consumer and athletes, but also addressed to a more familiar target in order to be able to enjoy the nature and the adventure that La Palma’s landscape offers.
DCB – Turismo y Desarrollo Local
DCB is working in different projects related to active tourism and of rambling, such as market studies of nature and of walking routes in France, United Kingdom and Germany, among others, within the context of the Itinerànnia program.
